A little bit of calm, right on your doorstep

Hello, and thank you for finding us. Mottram Reiki and Holistic Centre is a group run within the Mottram community and held at the local Community Centre.

We are not a clinic and we are not a spa. We are a room full of friendly people, a pot of tea and a handful of therapists who genuinely enjoy helping others feel better. Some people come in with an aching back, some with a head that will not switch off, and some simply because they fancy a quiet hour and a biscuit. All of those are good reasons.

We welcome all ages and look forward to seeing both new faces and old. Children are welcome free of charge under adult supervision. There is no need to know anything about holistic therapy before you arrive, and there is no pressure to book anything beyond the treatment you came for.

Training & certification

Learn Reiki with us, and get certified

Plenty of places will give you a treatment. Far fewer will teach you to do it yourself. We are a teaching centre as well as a therapy group, and we run proper certified courses in Reiki, Crystal Healing and EFT right here in Mottram in Longdendale.

Reiki

Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho, Levels 1 to 3

The traditional Usui system, taught in three degrees. You can stop at any level or carry on all the way to Master and Teacher.

  1. Level 1 · Shoden Your first attunement, the hand positions, and how to treat yourself and the people around you. No previous experience needed at all.
  2. Level 2 · Okuden The Reiki symbols, distance healing and working confidently with clients. This is the level most people train to if they want to practise properly.
  3. Level 3 · Shinpiden, Master The master symbol and the deeper practice. For those who want it, this includes how to attune and teach others, so you can go on to run your own courses.
Workshop

Crystal Healing

A comprehensive course covering how to choose, cleanse and work with crystals, how to build and use a crystal grid, and how to combine crystals with energy work. Taught from our own written guide.

Workshop

EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques

Often called tapping. A practical, comprehensive course in using EFT on yourself and with other people, for stress, cravings, difficult memories and everyday overwhelm.

Reiki

Angelic Reiki & Animal Reiki

Further training for those who already have a Reiki foundation, either working with angelic energy or learning to work safely and calmly with animals.

Development Circle

A regular circle for practising what you have learned, developing your intuition and keeping your practice alive between courses. Open to students and to anybody working on their own development.

Our therapies

A range of treatments run across the evening. Reiki is our flagship £5 session; the therapies marked additional cost are run by individual practitioners who set their own prices, so it is always worth asking on the night.

Reiki

Our signature session

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on (or hands-just-above) Japanese relaxation technique. You stay fully clothed and simply lie or sit comfortably while the practitioner works through a sequence of hand positions. Most people describe a feeling of warmth, heaviness or deep calm, and a fair few fall asleep entirely, which we take as a compliment.

It is commonly used to help with stress, poor sleep, low mood and general fatigue. We offer Usui Reiki levels 1, 2 and 3, Angelic Reiki, Animal Reiki and chair healing, and we teach it too.

Massage

All types of massage

Hands-on bodywork to release tight muscles, ease tension and get circulation moving again. Our practitioners cover a wide range of styles, from gentle relaxing, aromatherapy and Indian head massage through to deep tissue and Level 4 sports massage for stubborn injuries.

Tell your therapist what you are dealing with and how much pressure you like: the treatment is adjusted to you, not the other way round.

Reflexology

Feet up, shoes off

Reflexology works on the principle that points on the feet and hands correspond to the rest of the body. The therapist applies precise thumb and finger pressure to those points, which is somewhere between deeply relaxing and pleasantly intense, depending on the spot.

People often choose it for digestive complaints, hormonal balance, headaches and sheer stress relief. Only your socks and shoes come off.

Teaching & Lessons

Learn it, do not just receive it

This is the part we are proudest of. We teach Usui Reiki from Level 1 through to Master and Teacher, along with Crystal Healing and EFT, and every course comes with a printed manual and a certificate in your name at the end.

Courses are taught in small groups, or one to one if you prefer, and you practise throughout so you leave genuinely able to use what you have learned. No experience is needed to start at Level 1.

Medium Nights

Special evenings, booked separately

Our medium evenings are run as separate events rather than as part of the usual Wednesday drop-in. A visiting medium works with the room, offering messages and demonstrations to those present.

These nights are popular and places are limited, so they are announced in advance and are best booked ahead. Get in touch to be told when the next one is on.

Crystal & Energy Work

Clearing, grounding, protection

Crystal therapy uses stones placed on and around the body, chosen for what you are working through, while crystal gridding sets them in a pattern for a particular intention. Alongside it we offer chakra cleansing, energy clearing and protection, and cord cutting for relationships or situations you are ready to put down.

If none of those words mean much to you, that is genuinely fine. Come and ask, and somebody will explain it in plain English without any mystique.

EFT · Emotional Freedom Techniques

Also known as tapping

EFT combines gentle tapping on a sequence of acupressure points with talking through whatever is bothering you. It is a strange thing to describe and a very easy thing to do, and most people are surprised how quickly something loosens its grip.

People come to it for stress and anxiety, cravings and habits, fears, and difficult memories that still carry a charge. Sessions are private and you stay in control of how much you say out loud. You can also train in EFT with us.

Chakra Balancing & Cleansing

Putting things back in order

The chakras are the body's main energy centres, running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. When one is sluggish or overworked it tends to show up as feeling drained, wound up, foggy or stuck for no obvious reason.

You lie down fully clothed while the practitioner works through each centre in turn, clearing what has built up and bringing the whole system back into balance. Crystals and hands-on energy work are often used alongside it, and it sits very naturally after a Reiki session.

Sound Healing & Breathwork

Lie back and listen

A session built around singing bowls, gongs and chimes. You lie down, get comfortable and let the sound do the work. The overlapping tones and vibrations give the busy part of your mind something simple to hold on to, which is often enough for the rest of you to let go.

We run breathwork alongside it, and both sit naturally with our mindfulness and meditation sessions. No experience needed and nothing to do but breathe.

Learn something, or simply switch off

Alongside one-to-one treatments we run classes and workshops through the year. Numbers are kept small and friendly. Ask about the current timetable.

Mindfulness

Practical, jargon-free sessions in paying attention on purpose. Simple techniques you can use in a supermarket queue, not just on a cushion.

Meditation

Guided group meditation suitable for complete beginners. No cross-legged gymnastics required, a chair is absolutely fine.

Development Circle

A regular circle for those wanting to develop their own energy work and intuition, in a supportive and unhurried group.

Reiki Lessons

Learn Reiki properly, from level 1 through to level 3. Training and workshops are run in small groups through the year.

Sound Baths

Longer group sound healing sessions using bowls and gongs. Bring a mat, a blanket and an hour you are happy to lose.

Care homes, agencies and outside work

This is something we have only recently started doing and we are genuinely enjoying it. As well as our Wednesday sessions, we now work with care homes and outside agencies, and take bookings from residential and commercial clients.

For a care home that might be a regular visit offering gentle hand massage, Reiki or a relaxation session for residents, and something for the staff too, who tend to need it just as much. For a workplace it might be a wellbeing morning or chair massage. We come to you, we bring everything, and we fit around your routine rather than the other way round.

Fully DBS checked. Current and available to see on request, which matters when you are booking somebody to work with residents, children or vulnerable adults. We are fully insured too.

Before you come

Common questions

Do I need to book?

Not for a normal Wednesday evening, just turn up between 7pm and 9pm. Medium nights, workshops, classes and any aesthetic treatments do need booking in advance, so give us a ring to check.

I have never had Reiki before. What actually happens?

You stay fully clothed and lie down or sit comfortably. The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above you and moves through a series of positions. You do not have to do anything at all. Most people feel warmth, tingling or a heavy, pleasant sleepiness.

How much is it?

Reiki is £5 and includes refreshments. Massage, reflexology and medium nights are run by individual practitioners at an additional cost, so please ask for their prices. Courses are priced per course, and packages and multi-therapy discounts are available.

Can I learn Reiki with you, and do I get a certificate?

Yes to both. We teach Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho at Level 1 (Shoden), Level 2 (Okuden) and Level 3 (Shinpiden, Master and Teacher), as well as Crystal Healing and EFT. Every course includes a printed manual to keep and a certificate issued in your name when you complete it.

Do I need any experience to start learning Reiki?

None at all. Level 1 is designed for complete beginners and assumes you know nothing about it. You do not need to have had a Reiki treatment first, though plenty of people come to a Wednesday evening for one before deciding to train.

When do courses run?

Dates are arranged around the people who want them rather than fixed to a timetable, which means we can usually work around shifts and childcare. Tell us what you would like to learn and roughly when suits, and we will sort something out.

Can I go on to teach Reiki myself?

Yes. Level 3 covers the master symbol and the deeper practice, and for those who want it, how to attune and teach others so you can run your own courses.

Can I bring my children?

Yes. Children are very welcome and come free of charge, as long as they are supervised by an adult throughout.

Is it religious?

No. Everyone is welcome regardless of faith or lack of it. Nothing is asked of you beyond turning up.

Can holistic therapy replace my doctor?

No, and we would never suggest it should. Everything we offer sits alongside conventional medical care. Please keep taking any medication and keep seeing your GP. If you have a health condition, are pregnant, or are unsure, mention it to your practitioner before your session.

How do the aesthetic and injectable treatments work?

Those are booked as private appointments rather than on a Wednesday drop-in, and they start with a consultation so we can talk through suitability, aftercare and price. Give us a ring to arrange one.

Do you do bookings outside of Wednesdays?

Yes. We accept outside work for residential and commercial clients, including private group bookings and workplace sessions. Get in touch for a quote.
